Kathryn Eileen Artzner, 90, of New Philadelphia, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health. She is again walking hand in hand with her beloved husband, Bob.A daughter of the late George and Mary (Beans) Gurney, Eileen was born June 30, 1920 at Minerva, Ohio.Eileen graduated in 1939 from Magnolia High School. Then on May 9, 1942 she married Robert Victor Artzner in St. James Catholic Church at Waynesburg, Ohio. The couple shared nearly 62 years of marriage prior to Robert’s passing on December 24, 2003.In 1948, Eileen and Bob moved to New Philadelphia and since 2005 she has been a resident of Dover. Eileen was once employed as a sales agent for Emmons Jewelry Company at Canton. She was also formerly employed at Daniels Clothing and Apparel and Aberth’s Bakery at New Philadelphia.She was a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church where she formerly served as a deaconess. Eileen was also a former member of NAMI and the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.Eileen was an excellent homemaker and really enjoyed cooking and baking. She will also be remembered by her family and friends as having a passion for writing letters.She is survived by her children, Berlinda Artzner-Gordon of Dover, Darrah (Marilyn) Artzner of Houston, Texas, Colette Oreto and Shureen Payton both of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Jason (Deyse) Gordon of Dover, Erik (Jennifer) Oreto, Troy (Kelly) Oreto and Blake Oreto all of New Philadelphia and Erin and Christopher (Stephanie) Artzner both of Houston, Texas; her great grandchildren, Logan, Jayden, Chloe, Michael, Noah and Kyra; a sister, Donna (James) Downes of Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother, Richard (Mary Ellen) Gurney of Dover and many nieces and nephews.Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister and brother-in-law Norma Jean and Bob Robbins; a son-in-law, Dennis Oreto; her daughter Berlinda’s fiancé, Charles “Sonny” Spielman and two nieces.The family will receive guests on Friday, August 20, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Foursquare Gospel Church at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Eileen’s life will follow in the church at 12 p.m. with Pastor David Wing officiating. Following the service, a memorial reception will be held in the fellowship hall at the church.
