Kathlyn F. “Kaye” Shaffer, age 91, of New Philadelphia, left this earth on Monday, April 16, 2012, after a brief illness to join her husband Richard, who died in July 2002.
Kathlyn was born October 5, 1920 at Jewett, OH, a daughter of the late Ward C. and Anna Marie (Snyder) Bower. A lifelong resident of the area, she attended Central Elementary and graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1940. Kathlyn was primarily a homemaker most of her life, but had worked part time in sales at the former Woolworths, Hart’s Family Center and Moore’s Western Auto stores.
A member of the Broadway United Methodist Church and a past active member of the Tuscarawas County Republican Women’s Association, Kathlyn enjoyed bowling, sewing and camping with her late husband, brothers and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard who she married September 12, 1941 and celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage with. In addition to her husband, her brother Ward K. Bower, son-in-law Allan Everhart and grandson Mark A. Everhart preceded her in death.
Surviving Kathlyn is her son, Richard C. (Wanda) Shaffer and daughter Linda K. Everhart, and brothers Lowell (Suzie) Bower all of New Philadelphia, Virgil (Shirley) Bower of Navarre, and sister Lois Kron of Bradenton, FL.
Also surviving are a grandson, Timothy (Tracie) Shaffer of Colorado Springs, CO. and three granddaughters, Tamara Shaffer of New Philadelphia, Traci (Rob) Ervin of Dover and Misti Stalnaker of Ashland, OH.
Ten great grandchildren, Anthony Horton of Valdosta, GA, Cory and Clay Marshall of Dover, Adam and Craig Shaffer of Colorado Springs, CO., and Taylor, Kayla, Cacie, Cameron and Carson Stalnaker of Ashland, Ohio complete the family.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia Wednesday, April 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Rev. William Sowers will officiate Kathlyn’s service in the funeral home on Thursday at 1:30 with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia following the committal service where a meal will be shared.
