Kathleen J. “Kathy” Sherrets, 65, of Dover passed away peacefully in the Community Hospice Truman House on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 following a period of declining health.
Born in Hobbs, New Mexico on November 17, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Olga “Sue” (Brock) Tonge.
Kathy was a 1970 graduate of Eunice High School and then continued her formal education at Kent State University School of Nursing.
Kathy used her gifts and loving personality to serve as a nurse at Doctor’s Hospital, ultimately retiring from St. Luke’s Nursing Home in North Canton as an administrator.
She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, as well as an excellent bowler and cook. In her younger years, she bowled a 700 series at Kinser Lanes.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Jennifer and Justin (Amy) Sherrets, both of Dover; her grandchildren, Beau Sherrets, Gracie Shine, and Keaten Geiger; her brother, Walter Tonge; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bonnie (George) Freeland of New Philadelphia, Diann Sherrets of Stone Creek, Rick Sherrets of New Philadelphia; her cousin, Marlene Sherrets of New Philadelphia; her aunt, Nellie Sherrets of New Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Arthur Allen Sherrets who died May 22, 2006, Kathy was preceded in passing by her sister, Terri Massengill.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 2 to 4 PM. A service celebrating Kathy’s life will be held in the funeral home on Monday, January 22, 2018 beginning at 11 AM with Pastor Max Canfield officiating.
