Kathleen Elizabeth Sowers

Kathleen “Kitty” Elizabeth Sowers, 80, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, December 29, 2006 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover, Ohio.A daughter of the late Ellis and Emma (Reed) Klinger, Kitty was born January 27, 1926 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania.She attended Sunbury High School and on July 3, 1946, Kitty married the love of her life, Carl S. Sowers. Together, Carl and Kitty raised three wonderful children, Carl, Cathy and Karen.Kitty was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. During World War II, she served her country by making parachutes for the soldiers serving in the Armed Forces. She was also employed by the former Aamco Distribution Center at New Philadelphia. But most importantly to Kitty, she was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who took great pride in her family.She is survived by her children, Carl (Heather) Sowers of Dennison, Ohio Cathy (Jim) Rectanus of Dennison, Ohio and Karen (Herb) Fawcett of New Philadelphia, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lori) McBeth of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Kara (Nathan) Surber of Dover, Ohio, Brandy Fawcett of Columbus, Ohio, Eric Rectanus of Shandaken, New York, Staci (Tommy) Saffles of East Ridge, Tennessee, Robb (Brandy) Rectanus of Dennison, Ohio and Bryant, Logan and Courtney Sowers all of Dennison, Ohio; great grandchildren, Bailey and Colbey McBeth, Brady Saffels, Andrew Rectanus and one great grandchild to be born in April; one sister-in-law, Gloria Sowers of Sunbury, Pennsylvania and numerous nieces and nephews.Kitty was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Carl, who passed away in September of 1977; one brother, Woodrow Klinger and two sisters, Freida Forsyth and Genevieve Reichenbach.Family and friend may call in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Kitty’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. William Surber and Rev. Leonard Porter officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia, Ohio. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions may be made in Kitty’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
