Katherine Gopp

Katherine Teresa Gopp, 82, of Dover passed away peacefully in Park Village Healthcare Center at Dover on Friday morning, July 31, 2015 following a period of declining health.

Born in Dover on June 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Rini. After graduating from Dover High School in 1951, Katherine married her lifelong companion and friend, the late John Gopp, on June 13, 1959 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover.

Katherine’s faith was nurtured at St. Joseph Church where she was a member. She was involved with the church’s senior group in addition to volunteering in the elementary school cafeteria. Katherine also enjoyed her time as a member of the Sacred Heart Alter Society and working in the Union Hospital Snack Shop. She served for 16 years as an employee of New Philadelphia High School where she worked in the cafeteria. She also enjoyed employment with Buehlers in New Philadelphia where she worked in the Mill Restaurant as a cook.

Katherine will be deeply missed by her children Patti (Mark) DeVault of New Philadelphia and Tom (Candy) Gopp of Dover; her nieces, Linda (Larry) Clawson of New Philadelphia and Nancy (Glenn) Scarberry of Tampa, Florida; her sisters-in-law, Dora Stempfly and Betty Gopp of New Philadelphia, and Alice Rini of Hartville; and numerous, special nieces, nephews, and close friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Wallace and Laura Bendetta; and her brothers, Martin T. Rini and Nick “Sonny” Rini.

Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service commencing at 6:45 p.m. Father Jimmy Hatfield will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at Dover.
Friends are invited to the Geib Funeral Center’s hospitality room where a meal will be shared following the committal service.
