Katherine L. Durbin

Katherine L. Durbin, 98, of North Canton, passed away peacefully, with her son by her side, on March 6, 2025, following a period of declining health.

Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Katherine was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Amatangelo) Ponderendolph and a graduate of Latrobe High School.

Through the years and with a green thumb that almost seemed magical, Katherine cultivated and transformed her yard into a place where flowers would blossom under her attentive care. Her love for gardening was a reflection of her nurturing soul, as she tended to each plant with the same devotion she gave to her family and friends.

Katherine's interests extended beyond gardening. She also found joy in the gentle challenge of assembling jigsaw puzzles, where each piece was a new adventure waiting to be uncovered. Crossword puzzles were another of her delights, offering a daily exercise of wit and intellect that she would eagerly embrace.

On May 2, 1952, she married Paul Durbin, Sr. and again they recommitted their marriage on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary, May 2, 1992. Paul preceded her in death on July 19, 2003.

Katherine is survived by her son, Paul Durbin Jr. of North Canton and a daughter, Mary Lynn Zaksek of Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her two daughters, Mary Katherine Aken, Paula Fraga and her daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, Jo Ann Durbin, Amanda Marie Durbin and Jonathan Paul Durbin.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia and a private burial is to take place in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
