Kate P. Cathcart, age 95, of Chesterfield, Michigan, was reunited with her Lord and Savior and her beloved family who had gone before her on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.
Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 13, 1926, to the late John T. and Berthena Welch Pennington, Martha Katherine as she was named at birth soon took on the nickname of Kate.
On November 18, 1949, Kate married her husband, Guy Henry Cathcart. Kate followed her husband as his work in the engineering field relocated them to the Tuscarawas Valley in 1970. The family took an active interest in the community from the start when they joined Trinity Episcopal Church at New Philadelphia. Kate had a deep devotion to the church and served as a member of the Altar Guild for many years. Additionally, Kate and Guy were active members of the Tuscarawas County YMCA.
Kate was dedicated to her family and always ensured they were well cared for. She also enjoyed traveling, watching the birds and deer from her sunroom, working on jigsaw puzzles, watching The Walton’s, and spending time with her family and friends. Those who knew Kate were well aware of and instantly fell in love with her kind, gentle, Southern Hospitality. She truly never met a stranger.
She will be missed by her daughter, Martha (Doug) Anderson of New Baltimore, Michigan; two daughters-in-law, Sheri Cathcart of Raytown, Missouri and Pat Soltis Cathcart of Avon, Ohio; her grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Guigar, Elizabeth (David) Flores, Amber Cathcart, and David (Lauren) Cathcart; her step-grandsons, Eric (Alicia) Anderson and Nick Anderson; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Alexis, Savanna, Isabella, Maxwell, Silas, Finley, Maliyah, and Haddon Guy.
In addition to her parents, Kate was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Guy Henry Cathcart, two sons, Richard Cathcart, and David Cathcart; and a brother, Berl Pennington.
A celebration of Kate’s life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. She and Guy, and their son, Richard, will be laid to rest in Lake Park Cemetery in Laurel, Mississippi.
