Karen Sue Shanabrook Stevens, 65, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 23, 2013 in her home in New Philadelphia. She was surrounded with love from her family.
Karen was born September 30, 1947 to the late Dale and Anne (Haupert) Shanabrook. She is a graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Her strong work ethic was apparent during her decades of service with National City Bank.
That quiet strength carried her through a long battle with breast cancer. Never one to complain, Karen amazed her family with her courage, dignity, and strong will.
She was dedicated to her beloved daughter, Deana Hope (Ryan) Stevens Cox of Newcomerstown.
In addition to Deana, Karen leaves behind a long list of people who love her including: Dean Stevens, Kathy and Neil Cox and family; her brother, Allen Shanabrook and family; her sisters-in-law, Sharon Taylor and Ellen (John) Schelble; her nephews, Jim Taylor, Jason (Jenny) Taylor, and Nathan Schelble; her niece, Erika (Matt) Edwards; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, John Benton Taylor.
Cremation will be conducted through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. A private gathering will be held at a later date.
