Karen Ann Smith, 76, of Dover, died peacefully in her residence on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born in Union Hospital at Dover on June 9, 1942, Karen was a daughter of the late Kean Kenneth and Margaret Ann (Mason) Benson.
Karen was a graduate of Dover High School and was employed for many years by the former J. A. Conley Company and later Dover Buehler’s and M&M Market.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ at Dover and enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed canning, crocheting, camping with family, and trips to New Smyrna Beach and to Pawley’s Island.
Karen is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Smith whom she married on July 10, 1980; their children, Brenda Smith of Columbus, Michael (Kristen) Smith of Zoar; her step-children, Cynthia (Mark) Perry of Dover, Karen Michelle (Gary) Fisher of Mineral City, and Tommy (Peg) Smith of Dover; a grandson, Benson Smith; three step-grandchildren, Melissa Kelly, Chad Perry and Ashley Smith; five step-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Barbara (Dale) Randulic of New Philadelphia.
The family will greet guests on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 4-7 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Rev. Thomas Dunkle will lead a celebration of Karen’s life at 10:30 AM on Saturday in the Geib Funeral Center. Entombment will follow in the Dover Burial Park. A time of food and fellowship will be shared in the Hospitality Room of the Dover Geib Center following services.
