Karen Elizabeth Krantz

Karen Elizabeth Krantz, 66, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, October 19, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.A daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Schneider) Krantz, Karen was born October 18, 1943 at Dover, Ohio. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1961.Karen attended New Pointe Community Church and was a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 where she once was employed.She was an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed attending auctions, flea markets with her longtime friend D.E. Jaberg.She enjoyed the company of her friends, Shirley Ball, Rita Fox, Linda Goudy, Connie May and Carolyn Mackay during their monthly breakfast gatherings.Karen especially enjoyed the companionship of her pet bird, KD and the evening walks with her dog, Dusty.She is survived by four children, Lori (Donald) Crites of Strasburg, Sonya (Tim) Stein of Dover, Greg Weber of Dover and Matt (Michelle) Weber of Uhrichsville; nine grandchildren, Leah (Phil) Reifenschneider, Travis Metzger, Mariah and Morgan Crites, Cody and Brady Stein and Gregory, Cory and Matthew Weber and three great grandchildren, Hannah, Drake and Miley Reifenschneider.A sister, Vina (Gene) Hensel of Strasburg; a brother, Joe (Mary Feller) Krantz of Strasburg; a sister-in-law, Louise Yates of Strasburg and many nieces and nephews complete the family.In keeping with Karen’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover and a private graveside service will take place in Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg at a later date.In appreciation for the care and compassion shown to Karen during her illness, her family would like to thank Gabrail Cancer Center, Dr. Nagajothi and the staff of Union Hospital.Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and view an online memorial by visiting the funeral home website.Contributions may be made in Karen’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.
