Karen Ann Urfer, 72, of Dallas, North Carolina, and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in her residence following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Vernon E. and Virginia G. Lorenz Brick, Karen was born at New Philadelphia on March 26, 1943.
She was a 1961 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and enjoyed monthly outings with her classmates. For many years, she was active in the family business, Urfer Services and later worked for Chase Bank.
Karen loved working with horses and other animals as well as spending time with her friends and family. Six years ago as Karen’s health declined, she relocated to North Carolina to be with her daughter and cherished Saturday outings to the beauty salon and lunch. Karen enjoyed the trips back to Ohio during the holidays to visit with family and spend time with her grandchildren.
She leaves behind her son, Douglas (Karen) Urfer of New Philadelphia; her daughter, Jessica (Michael) Jarvis of Dallas, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Ethan and Hannah Urfer; two step-grandchildren Dean and Elizabeth Jarvis, seven nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law, Barb Brick of Chardon, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Brick.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 5-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Karen’s life will be led by Pastor Bruce Sexton on Wednesday, February 19, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Inurment in Evergreen Burial Park will follow. A meal and fellowship will follow in the Geib Family Center following the service.
