June Marshall Phillips, 85, of Dover, died Tuesday evening December 2, 2003, in Union Hospital.Born in Canton, O, October 1, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Roy D. Marshall and Minnie B. Lauffer Marshall.Mrs. Phillips was a 1936 graduate of New Philadelphia High School before attending business school in Canton. A lifelong homemaker, she was active in the Dover First Moravian Church, and the Moravian Women’s Organization. June was also a former member and past president of the Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority and a member of the Past President’s Club. She was a sports enthusiast, and especially enjoyed following the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. On January 12, 1944, she married William J. Phillips. They spent forty-five years together before his death on September 14, 1989. Together, they raised a daughter, Kathy Phillips, who also preceded her mother in death. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Theresa Ripley of Dover, and Mrs. Norma Jean Schmeling of Casey, IA; three nieces, Julie (Jerry) Fisher of New Philadelphia, Lynne Came of Akron, O, and Judy (John) Moller of Des Moines, IA; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, husband and daughter, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by a niece, Karen Osterberg, and a nephew, Mile Schmeling.Friends are invited to call Friday, December 5, 2003 from Noon until 1:30 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Rev. Allen Bergmann of the First Moravian Church will officiate funeral services Friday at 1:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial, alongside her husband and daughter, will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. A reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, following the graveside funeral service. In gratitude for their exemplary care, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, or to First Moravian Church, 319 North Walnut Street, Dover, OH 44622.
