Julie K. Day

May 14, 1960 — March 26, 2013

Julie K. (Slentz) Day, 52, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from a brain aneurysm. Julie was born on May 14, 1960 at Dover, Ohio to Roy and Lillian Slentz.

Julie and Paul, her husband of 32 years, were holding hands while enjoying their one-year-old grandson, Aiden, when suddenly, without warning, Julie collapsed. While emergency rescue came, people, pastors, and churches throughout the country were contacted and prayer immediately began. After about twenty four hours of medical attention, it pleased the Lord for Julie to go to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Julie has three young and wonderful grandsons: Aiden of Virginia Beach; and Liam and Daneel of Macomb, Illinois, and a fourth grandchild on the way. Julie was the ultimate mother and grandmother who loved pouring out her love, life, time, and energy into her two children and her three young grandchildren. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren while carrying a full-time job. She was looking forward to retirement.

Julie was the kind of person who would lend a listening ear. She was the rock of her immediate family. She was the decision-maker, peacemaker, and the one who was always more than willing to lovingly carry the burdens for everyone involved in her life. Julie had many nieces and nephews with whom she thoroughly enjoyed spending time.

Family time with her children, grandchildren, and immediate family was her greatest delight. Julie was actively involved in her daughter’s Girl Scouts and also as a team mom for her daughter’s softball team. She also enjoyed supporting her son in his school and debate activities. Julie and her husband have always loved vacationing and traveling together throughout the United States and the Caribbean. In recent years, camping and hiking also became a favorite past time. She was previously a member of Rock Church and was currently attending Grace Bible Church both at Virginia Beach.

Julie is a 1978 New Philadelphia High School Graduate, and attended Akron University. She received her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Business Management in 1987 at St. Leo University. She was a dedicated and hard-working employee of SunTrust Bank in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Virginia since 1980. She started out as a teller and then worked her way up to Vice President, Portfolio Manager, and Wealth & Investment Management. She served 33 years in the banking business.

She is survived by her husband Paul, formerly of New Philadelphia, her son Dr. Jonathan Day of Macomb, Illinois, her daughter Jennifer Harrell of Virginia Beach, VA, her mother, Lillian M. (Daryl) Slentz-Jackson and a brother David (Marietta) Slentz both of New Philadelphia, OH, and a sister Beth, (Tom) Conidi of Coshocton, OH. Julie is predeceased by her father Roy Jacob Slentz and an infant sister, Carol Mae Slentz.

We are sincerely grateful to all our dear friends and family who have contacted us. Many thanks also to the many doctors in Virginia Beach and Norfolk who treated Julie. A special thanks to Dr. Garnett at Norfolk General for the deep concern and empathy he demonstrated to our family.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Foursquare Gospel Church at Dover. A celebration of Julie’s life will follow at 7 p.m. in the church. At the conclusion of the service a time of fellowship will be held. Interment will be held privately in Dover Burial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made in Julie’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
