Julia (Maier) Miller, 98, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, June18, 2005 at Country Club Retirement Campus in Dover.A daughter of the late Julius E. and Lena (Scheu) Maier, Julia was born April 16, 1907, in New Philadelphia.She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1925 and Tuscarawas County Normal School in 1926. She also attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison.Julia taught in Dover Public Schools and Beckwith Business College in New Philadelphia. She served as Assistant County Supervisor of the National Youth Administration (NYA) from 1938 to 1943.She was a secretary at Westinghouse in New Philadelphia during World War II and retired from Joy Manufacturing Company in 1973 after 28 years of service. She was also a member of the First Christian Church in New Philadelphia.She is survived by three grandchildren, Jean (Tommy) Carter, Paul (Sheryl) Vachon and Roy (Elizabeth) Vachon and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one son-in-law, David Vachon of Florida; nieces, Betty (John) Didicher and Louise Maier of Marietta, Georgia, and Yvonne Washer of Troy, Ohio; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be missed by her special friends, Brad and Debbie Fuller of Strasburg, Judy DeVore, Ann and Ernie Frank of Dover and Bob and Rita Miller of Dover; and her many other friends.Her daughter, Patricia Brady Vachon, who died in 2005; her husband, George N. Miller, who died in 1988; and her brother Elliot L. Maier, who died in 1976, preceded Julia in death.In keeping with Julia’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours and cremation will take place at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622 and/or The First Christian Church, 104 Third Street NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
