Julia Mae Stevens, age 80, of Tippecanoe, died Sunday, February 28, 2010, in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Chester A. and Gladys P. Abbott Miller, Julia was born on May 27, 1929, at Marshallville, Ohio.On November 19, 1962, Julia married Donald J. Stevens and would rear a family which included seven children. Together the couple would share thirty-nine years of marriage prior to Donald’s passing in August of 2002.From the early 1960’s to the mid 1970’s, Julia, alongside her husband, would own and operate Stevens General Store at Tippecanoe. Following that time, Julia enjoyed her work as a homemaker and caretaker to her family.As a younger woman, Julia would enjoy league bowling. She enjoyed craft projects and crocheting as well as spending time shopping and attending auctions, where she was constantly on the search for that “perfect buy”.Julia was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church at Tuscarawas. For a period of time, Julia resided at Jaycee Villa at Uhrichsville where she was an active member of the Social Committee. Additionally, Julia would spend a number of years as a supportive member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department at Tippecanoe.Julia leaves behind her family which includes two daughters, Pamela (Willard) Perdue of Barnsville, and Pamela (John) Chaney of Bowerston; three sons, Donald (Marla) Stevens of Uhrichsville, Howard E. (Michelle) Stevens of Tippecanoe and Roger Espenschied of California.Nineteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, thirty two great-grandchildren, four step-great- grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents and husband, Julia was preceded in death by a son, Roy Stevens, a daughter, Rhonda Stevens, a sister, Louise Espenschied, and three brothers, Delmar D. Miller, Chester A. Miller, Jr. and Cecil Nicholson.The family wishes to invite guests to join them for food and fellowship on Saturday, March 6, 2010, from 1:00 � 5:00 PM in the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department Hall at Tippecanoe.In keeping with Julia’s wishes cremation will be conducted with the family holding private inurnment in the Greenmont Union Cemetery at Freeport at a later date.Those wishing to do so may direct memorial contributions in Julia’s memory to the Washington Township Fire Department, 81125 Gardner Road, Tippecanoe, Ohio 44699
