Joyce Marie Bowe, age 76, of Port Washington, died peacefully, Thursday evening, May 9, 2013 in Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Nelson and Josephine (McCluskey) Hykes, Joyce was born at New Philadelphia on May 17, 1936.
She was a graduate of the former Uhrichsville High School and on December 3, 1956 she married Melvin Bowe. As a couple they reared two sons and shared in nearly 45 years of marriage until Melvin’s death just one day prior to their anniversary in 2001.
Joyce enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, planting flowers, and reading. Above all else, however, she will be remembered for her overwhelming dedication to her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Bryan (Kelly) Bowe of Port Washington, and Randy (Shelley) Bowe of Gnadenhutten and five grandchildren, Brett Bowe, Shane Bowe, Tyler (Kayla) Bowe, Kaitlyn Bowe, and Cody Bowe.
Completing the family are four brothers, Ed Hykes, Jim (Judy) Hykes, John (Barb) Hykes, and Joe (Mary) Hykes; two sisters, Barb Goedel, and Debi (Bill) Gerrick; sisters and brother-in-law, Cora (Bill) Thompson, Alice Bowe, and Alice Craig and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Marguerite and James Bowe; a sister-in-law, Ruth Hykes, and two brothers-in-law, James Bowe and Robert Bowe.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Larry Malterer will lead a celebration of Joyce’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 10:30 AM. Immediately following the service, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home.
Private inurnment will take place in the Gnadenhutten Clay Union Cemetery at a later date.
