Joyce Hunter

Joyce Marie Hunter, age 71 of Clearwater, Florida and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Friday, September 20, 2013 in Clearwater.

A daughter of the late Edwin and Norma Niuman, Joyce was born at Minerva, Ohio on February 22, 1942.

On September 16, 1962 Joyce married the love of her life, Gary Hunter and recently celebrated their 51st anniversary. Through their years together, the couple raised two children and enjoyed traveling. Additionally, they enjoyed being on the water whether it was taking various cruises or spending time on Atwood Lake on their houseboat, Nana’s Joy; a pastime they enjoyed with other boating friends, whom they considered family, for more than 20 years.

Joyce was a beautician by trade and joined her husband in the operation of Hunter’s Southside Gas Station at New Philadelphia; which they owned for 17 years.

In addition to her husband, Joyce is survived by her two children, Terri (Bob) Kennedy of Massillon, and Scott (Melissa) Hunter of North Canton; a sister, Joan (Tim) Wright of Minerva; three grandchildren, Rachel Kennedy, Amanda (Justin) Pfister, and Jacob Kennedy and a great-granddaughter, Allison Pfister.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by two grandsons, Adam and Andrew Kennedy.

The family will greet guests on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 2:00 – 4:30 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where an informal celebration of life will be shared by all beginning at 4:30 PM.
