Joyce Bryant Henry, age 88, of Strasburg, Ohio and formerly of Las Cruces, New Mexico, died peacefully, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, in Lifecare Hospice’s Truman House at New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Born on October 15, 1935, in Corinth, Mississippi, Joyce was a daughter, of the late Frank Lewis and Thelma Louise Hartz Bryant.
Joyce earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and in 1958, she relocated to Las Cruces, New Mexico. It was there she met and fell in love with Edward Mark Henry and on September 23, 1959, the couple married and shared in 53 years of marriage prior to his passing on June 14, 2013.
Professionally, Joyce used her degree as an Operations Research Analyst for the United States Army where she studied and planned Battlefield Simulations.
Aside from being a mom and caring for her family, Joyce enjoyed playing her recorder as a founding member of the Rio Grande Recorders. There wasn’t a day that didn’t pass that she didn’t work on a Sudoku puzzle or complete the New York Times Crossword Puzzle. She also enjoyed cooking and finding new recipes and after relocating to her Ohio home, enjoyed sharing those meals with her family.
Joyce is survived by a daughter, Laura (Dave) Hughes of Strasburg, Ohio; a son, Mark (Rosanna) Henry of Albuquerque, New Mexico; granddaughter, Alyssa (Robby) Frutchey of New Philadelphia, and three great-grandchildren, Davis, Emma, and Kacie Frutchey. Completing the family are her brother, John (Virginia) Bryant of Florida; a niece, Ginger Whelan and a nephew, David Bryant.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover is handling arrangements.
