Joyce Baum, age 81, of Dover, died early Wednesday morning, September 12, 2007, in her residence. Born at Dover, February 4, 1926, Joyce was a daughter of the late Richard Plummer and Rose Webb Plummer. Joyce was a 1944 graduate of Dover High School and throughout her life, kept in touch with classmates who met over the years for mini-reunions. She retired from the packing department of the former Miracle Adhesive at Dover. She was a longtime member of the New Cumberland United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women at New Cumberland, the Fairfield Grange, and the Pamona Grange. Joyce and her husband frequented many of the local grange square dances over the years. Bowling was also a favorite pastime. Joyce loved to crochet and knit, then graciously share her hand-made goods with family and friends, who will now cherish them as keepsakes. Mrs. Baum will be remembered for her beautiful flower gardens, as in independent person, and for dearly loving her daughters and husband. On February 12, 1946, Joyce married the late Robert A. Baum and the couple observed their sixty-first wedding anniversary prior to his June 23, 2007 death. Together, they reared a family of four daughters that includes Joyce Ann (Donald )Rufener and Patricia (Glen) Gerber, both of Dover, Roberta (Ronald) Rufener of New Philadelphia, and Peggy Raye Baum of Strasburg; grandchildren, Vanessa (Nick) Johnson of Dover, Jody Gerber of Dover, Heather (Bill) Turner of Peterborough, Canada, Don (Tammy) Rufener of Uhrichsville, Doug Rufener of Newcomerstown, Matt (Mary) Border of Gnadenhutten, Philip Rufener of New Philadelphia, Robert Rufener of Canton; great-grandchildren, Cameron Johnson, Hannah Gerber, Billie Turner, Evie Turner, Donnie Rufener III, Tawnya Rufener, Colin Border, Aaron Border, and Kaitlyn Border. Two sisters, Irene Mitchell of Glendale, Arizona, and Martha (Dale) Grimm of Dover, as well as two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Plummer of Colton, California and Edith Plummer of Dover, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins complete the family. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce is preceded in death by her son Robert Daniel Baum, sisters Alice Eash, Frances Gamble and Rosie Plummer, who died in infancy, and brothers Richard, Frank, John and young Robert Plummer, who also died in infancy. Friends are invited to call Friday afternoon, from 5PM Â? 8PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Chaplain Rick Brinsley and the Rev. Bud Milligan will lead funeral services for Mrs. Baum Saturday morning at 10AM. Burial will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception following the committal service in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.
