Joyce Ann Trimmer

Joyce Trimmer, 63, New Philadelphia, died at her home Sunday evening, June 13, 2004, following a courageous battle with cancer.One of two children born to the now late Joseph and Hilda Mathers Demattio, Joyce was born in Midvale, OH, on December 27, 1940, and graduated in l958 from Midvale High School.On October 14, l961, she married Frederick “Fritz” Trimmer, who survives.Joyce loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother, and was known for her generous, giving personality which was recognized in 1992, when she received the Robert Torgler Award for outstanding volunteerism. This award, presented by the Community Mental Health Board, cited Joyce’s ongoing dedication to the Big Brothers-Big Sisters program.She enjoyed nature and was a member of The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, where she often took her grandchildren. Her contact with former high school classmates continued through her association with the Midvale Club. She was also a member of Faces of Hope.She will be missed by all her knew her, including her husband; her daughter, Tracy Daley of New Philadelphia; son, Matt (Pam) Trimmer of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Megan Daley and Ryan and Lauren Trimmer; brother, Harold “Bud” (Sheila) Demattio of New Philadelphia; niece, Lori Demattio and nephew, Bill (Sharon) Demattio.Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Todd F. Trimmer; and nephew, David Demattio.Visitation will be at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, between the hours of 1:00 and 8:00 pm, with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. On Thursday morning, Msgr. George J. Schlegel will celebrate a funeral mass at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church.
