Joyce Ann Gowins

Joyce Ann (Cook) Gowins, 66, of New Philadelphia, died June 9, 2005 at Park Village Nursing Home following an extended debilitating illness.Born November 17, 1938 in Waddy, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Bertha Mae (Tatum) Cook, Sr. Joyce was raised on the farm near Waddy and lived there with her brother, the late Ralph Cook, Jr. and sister, Edith Mae Cook, until she found began employment with the state government of Kentucky in Frankfurt. She did excel in high school, graduating as valedictorian of her class.On March 14, 1964, Joyce married her husband, Earl Gowins, who survives. Together, they moved to his farm near New Philadelphia to raise their family which includes her four children, Keith, Kevin, Kurt, Kathi, and the late Karl. While on the farm, Joyce enjoyed raising a large garden and herbs. She also spent much time cooking and sewing.Joyce is also survived by her two young grandchildren, Jennifer and Levi Coker of Texas, who brought great enjoyment to her life in recent years.Visitation will be held Monday, June 13, 2005, at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place Tuesday at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. with Mr. Simon Dean and Mr. Troy Gilmore officiating. Following the service, a committal service will take place at East Avenue Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to the Tuscora Park Dining Hall where a meal will be served following burial.
