Joseph W. “Joe” Otte, 31, of New Philadelphia passed away Thursday evening, September 19, 2013, of an apparent, accidental heroin overdose, following a long-time battle with addiction.
Born August 24, 1982 in Dover, he was the son of Mary Ann (Prince) Otte of New Philadelphia and the late John E. Otte.
After graduating in 2001 from New Philadelphia High School, Joe became a proud member of the Pipeliners Local 798 Union. He most recently was employed with D.W.R. Services as a valued employee.
Joe will be remembered as a gentle soul with a kind and caring heart. Joe loved spending time in nature whether it was golfing or fishing. He also got great enjoyment being an uncle to his beautiful nephews and niece.
He will be deeply missed by his family which includes his mom, Mary Ann; his brothers, Sam (Jolene) Otte and their sons, Kaine and Karsen of New Philadelphia; and Luke (companion, Christi Lamb) Otte of New Philadelphia and her daughter, Sophia Lamb; his grandfather, Delmar Espenschied of New Philadelphia; and close friend, Larry Mushrush of Dover; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, John E. Otte who died March 10, 2000; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service celebrating Joe’s life will be held in NewPointe Community Church on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service.
A committal will take place immediately following the service at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover.
Joe struggled with addiction for many years. In an effort to raise awareness of this disease and help others in need of crucial services to stop the addiction, Joe’s family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board, P.O.
