Joseph C. Turrin, Jr. 55, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, September 27, 2017 following a year and a half battle with ALS. Joey’s family has been grateful for his care which has been provided by Schoenbrunn Health Care Center at New Philadelphia and Community Hospice.
Born on November 14, 1961, at Dover, Ohio, Joey is deeply loved by his father and step-mother, Joseph C. Turrin, Sr. and Becky Weeks Turrin of New Philadelphia.
He was a 1980 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Professionally, Joey was a trained floor care specialist in the field of janitorial services.
Joey was a gifted pianist and had a love for animals, especially his “rescued” house cats. He also enjoyed bowling and knew the thrill of bowling a perfect 300 game. During the Christmas season, Joey was filled with joy and felt a great deal of satisfaction as a volunteer bell ringer for the Salvation Army. Additionally, he had a special interest in classic cars and owned several of them throughout his lifetime.
Those who had the opportunity to meet Joey, were impressed by his exceptional kindness, friendly and courteous attitude toward others and how he never met a stranger. His command of the English Language and its vocabulary was most impressive.
Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Guy Turrin and Marie Dillon Turrin.
Private services will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with private burial taking place in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Salvation Army, 809 Emmett Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
