Joseph Louis Leggett, age 62 of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, died unexpectedly in Oakwood Annapolis Hospital at Michigan on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. John was traveling to Ohio and was hours away from being with his family.

A son of Doris (Ford) Leggett of New Philadelphia and the late Joseph Paul Leggett, Joe was born in Union Hospital at Dover on December 6, 1951. He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and for the nearly 37 years he has resided in Hawaii where he was employed by the state’s school system.

Joe’s outgoing and carefree personality allowed him to live his life to the fullest and enjoy being around others. He was a fan of backyard barbeques, parties, and loved socializing with his family and friends. He was also known for his love of the occasional trip to the casinos and was proud of the fact that he was a former golden glove boxer.

Joe’s passion for life extended to others as he never wished for others to be without as he was an extremely generous individual. He also never met a stranger and loved getting to know others through casual conversation.

He was deeply loved and will be missed by his family which includes his mother, Doris; a sister, Jerri (Steve) Stemple; a nephew, Andy (Sandi) Albright all of New Philadelphia; a niece, Stephanie (Curt) Dunn of Dover; a grandson, Elijah; four step-grandchildren, Melissa, Shanel, Shari Ann and Keone; four great-nephews, Dan, Nick, Jackson, and Braydon and a great-niece, Sydney.

Completing the family are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins whom he shared a special bond.

In addition to his father, Joe was preceded in death by an infant son, Derek Leggett; a daughter, Mistie Pontin, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

In keeping with Joe’s wishes cremation has taken place with private family service to be held at a later date.
