Joseph E. Metzger, 51, of Uniontown, Ohio and formerly of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, February 27, 2012 following a massive heart attack..
A son of David and Patricia (Gaudreau) Metzger of New Philadelphia, Joe was born December 11, 1960 at Highland Park, Michigan.
Joe graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1979 then continued his education at the Tuscarawas Campus of Kent State University graduating in 1981. He was employed by MCPC Inc. of Cleveland as a Network Engineer.
He was an extremely talented guitarist and was a band member of Krystal and most recently The Moonlighters. He also enjoyed playing for family and friends and especially jamming at family gatherings. Joe was a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 and enjoyed golfing and traveling. One of his greatest hobbies was building guitar amplifiers and repairing anything electronic. Most of all, he will be remembered by his family and friends for his generous and caring personality. He was always more than willing to help someone in need, no matter how involved the situation might be,
He is survived by his parents; his soulmate, Lisa Clum of Uniontown, Ohio; his brothers, Steve Metzger of New Philadelphia, Ken Metzger of Dover and Davey (fiancé, Jeneal McCurdy) Metzger of New Philadelphia; his nieces, Brittney, Tori and Lily Metzger and Kenzie Murphy; his nephews, Miles and Daniel Metzger and Lincoln Murphy; a great nephew, Tyson Flickinger; an aunt, Nancy Blackwell of California; Lisa’s parents, Jerry and Myra Deuker of Tuscarawas; Lisa’s son, Tynan Clum; Lisa’s sister, Jerri Ann Carlisle of Tuscarawas; and his faithful companions, Trapper and Asia.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 2-4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. In keeping with Joe’s wishes, cremation will follow calling hours and inurnment will take place in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia at a later date.

Instead of asking for contributions, Joe’s family requests that family and friends carry out a good deed in honor of his spirit.
