Joseph A. Yegher, age 94, of New Philadelphia died Tuesday morning, March 6, 2012 in Hennis Care Center at Dover.
Born in New Philadelphia on December 29, 1917, he was the son of the late Fredrick and Anna (Clauser) Yegher. Joe attended Hummel Valley School as a young man before entering the service. He served in the United States Army in England and France as a truck driver.
Joe was employed at the former Joy Manufacturing and the former Warner & Swasey throughout his career. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
In his youth, Joe enjoyed hunting. More recently, he was an avid bird and squirrel watcher and loved to garden.
Joe is survived by his nieces, Michelle (James) Hothem of New Philadelphia and Carol (William) Arnold of Uhrichsville; his nephews, Daniel (Barbara) Stemple of Uhrichsville, Robert (Marilyn) Brown, Thomas (Sue) Brown, Richard Brown, and Jerry (Judy) Brown, all of New Philadelphia.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene C. Brown, Anna Stemple, and Elizabeth Toth; his nephew, Joseph Brown; and his niece, Wilhelmina Mutti.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Christian Wake service commencing at 7:45 p.m. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors.
Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal will be shared following the committal service.
