Jonathan Matthew Gray, 19, of Tippecanoe, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, as the result of a tragic automobile accident in Dover Township.Born in Canton, O, on November 20, 1982, Jon was a son of Daniel Paul and June Louise Moore Gray.A 2000 graduate of Lakeland High School, Jon attended Belmont Vocational School where he studied to be a draftsman. Active in high school athletics, Jon set records running on the school’s track team, and enjoyed running on the Lakeland Cross Country team. In his private time, he loved the outdoors, and appreciated both the animals and plants that were a part of his home life. Jon will long be remembered as a friendly and unassuming young man who liked to make people laugh.In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister and brother both of whom he dearly loved, Melinda D. Gray of the home, and William D. Gray of Missouri; maternal grandfather Elmer E. Moore and paternal grandmother, Arline E. Gray, both of Canton; four aunts, Glenda (Richard) Irwin of Michigan, Bonnie (Ronald) Dierks of Newark O., Shirley Moore of Canton O., Betty (Larry) White of Georgia; four uncles, Donald Moore of Bolivar; David W. Gray, James E. (JoAnn) Moore, and Eddy (Georgia) Moore, all of Canton; a great-uncle, Lavern Manual of Newark O.; numerous cousins complete the family.Jon was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother; Martha Jane Moore, and paternal grandfather, William W. Gray Jr.Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 6pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 9 pm at the funeral home. The family will host a gathering in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, following the ceremony Wednesday evening.
