Jon "Eric" Levengood

Jon “Eric” Levengood, 67, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 5, 2024 in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia following a year-long battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease.

Born in Dover on February 15, 1957, he was the son of Robert “Jack” and Phyllis Ruth (Barnes) Levengood.

Eric was a 1976 graduate of New Philadelphia where he continued as the chairman of the “Get-Togethers” and reunions, which he took great pride in coordinating. He was also a member of the Uhrichsville Moose and B.P.O.E #510.

Professionally, Eric served 39 years as an independent realtor and 25 years as an appraiser. He was employed during his career with Kaufman Realty and Smitley Realty and was the owner of Adelphia Appraisal Services.

His faith was nurtured at the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia, where he loved to share his faith with those he encountered.

Eric had a deep love for his family, never missing the opportunity to support his children or grandchildren. He was also an avid supporter of the former Chicken Manor where he enjoyed gathering with family and friends.

Hilton Head was a yearly destination for family vacations, and he was often found on a golf course enjoying comradery and the game. He is one of a handful of golfers locally to be able to boast about having 3 holes-in-one throughout his career.

Sports and old cars caught his attention frequently, too. He collected old cars and enjoyed attending car shows throughout his lifetime.

His family speaks of him as a jack of all trades, but a master of some. Eric was quick to lend a helping hand that provided for someone to get established and succeed. He was devoted to the less fortunate and always shared his gifts and talents with them to get a person traveling in a positive direction.

Eric will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his family including his wife, Mary whom he married June 25, 2016; his children, Leah (Philip) Rangel of Dennison, Mitchell (fiance, Katie Garabrandt) Levengood of New Philadelphia, Andrea (Jim) Gintner of Warren and Olivia (Blair) Emler of Dover; grandchildren, Philip IV and Wesley Rangel, Brennan, Vivienne and Addison Gintner, and Avery, Aniston and Ariah Emler; and his brothers, Mark (Patty) Levengood of Dover and Jeff (Joyce) Levengood of New Philadelphia; his step-daughter, Kayley (Glenn) Hickman; his step-grandchildren, Tyler and Audriana; and his fur companion, Ellie Mae.

Numerous friends will remember Eric fondly, especially his buddies in “The Ratz”.

Eric was preceded in passing by his parents; his infant granddaughter, Aubrey Rangel; his nephew, Scott Levengood; and his step-son, Jack Staley.

Memorial visitation will be held Friday, July 12 in First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia from 4 to 7 p.m. A service celebrating Eric’s life will be held in the church on Saturday, July 13 beginning at 11 a.m. Inurnment will immediately follow the service in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions in Eric’s memory may be directed to either Ohio’s Hospice Truman House or the CJD Foundation.
