Johnny G. Shoemaker, age 71, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Thursday morning, September 20, 2007 in Union Hospital at Dover. Born Halloween Day, (October 31) 1935, at Morgan Mines West Virginia, he was a son of the late Juanita Carpenter Norman and the late Austin Shaver. Johnny was reared in West Virginia and here in the Tuscarawas Valley as part of a large family that includes five sisters and a brother. Many residents will remember Johnny for his craftsmanship as a carpenter. For several years, he was affiliated with Professional Home Finishing Systems. Johnny was also a successful Kirby Sweeper Sales Representative for fifteen years. Since retiring a number of years ago, he enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds from the front porch of his home. Johnny was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, through thick and thin and was also fond of all things Harley Davidson. He loved being around young children and delighted in watching them play and coaching youth baseball. His family includes his sons Johnny (and companion Annette Ankrom) Setvin and Rod Setvin all of Somerdale. Scotty (and companion Dusty Briggs) Shoemaker of Columbus, a daughter Traci (Brian) Waltz of Barnhill, son Chris Carpenter of Phoenix, Arizona, and Crystal Fisher.He’ll be sadly missed by his grandchildren Jazmine Stull, Aaron, Brenton and Justin Setvin, Charles Ankrom Jr., Hannah Hammary, Scotty Shoemaker Jr., Alexis McNutt, Corey Fisher, and Tiffany Walton.Johnny’s family also includes his sisters Pansy Linglie of Chicago, Paulette Weese of New Philadelphia, Helen (Ronald) Phillips of New Philadelphia, Bonnie Boor of Arizona, and Wendy (Bob) Rexroad of Warren, Ohio. His companion, Regina Frank Carpenter of Mannington, West Virginia, and his former wife, Carol Fisher of Barnhill also survive. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and great nephews complete the family. In addition to his parents, Johnny is preceded in death by his brother James Shaver, and a grandson, Michael Hammary. Friends are invited to call Saturday afternoon from 2PM-4PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Cremation will follow through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
