Johnalee “Johnnie” M. Archibald, age 66, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 24, 2009.Born December 28, 1942, in Union Hospital at Dover she was a daughter of the late Darrell and Mary Louise Ruefly Mizer. A 1960 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Johnnie continued her education with the Humbolt Institute School of Business. During President Kennedy’s term in office, Johnnie worked for the CIA and would continue to work for the government at the State Data Center in downtown New Philadelphia for more than 20 years.Johnnie has spent the past ten years, following her retirement, as a crossing guard for New Philadelphia Schools where she was known as “Grandma Johnnie” to the children who attended West Elementary School. On August 30, 1990, Johnnie married her long time friend and companion, John “Arch” N. Archibald. Together the couple enjoyed camping at area campgrounds and visiting flea markets throughout the state.Best known for her love of a bargain, Johnnie enjoyed yard sales and looking for the perfect gifts for friends and family. She also enjoyed looking for pieces to add to her numerous keepsake collections. Additionally, Johnnie loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Taking them out to eat and attending their many activities were highlights of her life. She was also an avid fan of all Cleveland sports and The Ohio State Buckeyes.She is survived by a daughter, Lori (Kevin) Cain, of New Philadelphia; a stepson, John (Deb) Archibald; two stepdaughters, Jean (Richard) Marteney and Jackie (Randy) Branch; and a brother, Edward “Eddie” Mizer, of New Philadelphia.Johnnie will be greatly missed by two grandchildren, Cady and Nicklaus Cain, and step grand-children; Randy Branch, Jr. Brian, Billy and Amanda Archibald, Donnie Lewis, and John Scott Archibald who complete the family. She will be sadly missed by Bailey, Bandit and Molly, who were not only her pets, but also her companions. Dear friends Tom and Mary Slasor and Jean Stratton, along with the numerous friends that Johnnie encountered throughout her lifetime will greatly miss the time and numerous adventures they shared.In addition to her parents and husband, Johnnie is preceded in death by an infant grandson, Zachary Kevin Cain.Friends are invited to call Tuesday, June 30, 2009, from 4 to 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Kelly Brown will lead Johnnie’s funeral ceremony Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover OH 44622, or to any pet charity of the donor’s choice.
