John W. Cox, age 86, of New Philadelphia passed away Saturday morning, August 27, 2016 in Schoenbrunn Healthcare Center following a period of declining health

Born in Quaker City, O. on December 28, 1929, he was the son of the late John Arneal and Mary Bell (Geisey) Cox.

After completing his formal education, John worked as a wrapper and boxer at Simon Tool Co. in Newcomerstown for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was also a farmer at heart.

On June 14, 1958 in Cambridge, O., John married his late wife, Betty. Together, they were members of the Dover congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

John’s family includes his children, Mary (Vic) Beckley, Jr. of New Philadelphia, Carol Cox of Newcomerstown, Rebecca (John) McCabe of Dover, Dennis (Debbie) Cox of Marysville, O., and Tim (Jo) Cox of Bolivar; and his grandchildren, Eric Beckley, Daniel, Devin, Hayden, Joey, and Katie Cox.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and Kenneth Cox; and his sisters, Sylvia Smith and Mildred Lake.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Port Washington Kingdom Hall, 9603 Bunker Hill Rd. Port Washington, Ohio 43837, on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions in John’s memory may be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St. Dover, O. 44622 or Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1212 Kelly NW, New Philadelphia, O. 44663.
