John W. Barlow, age 87, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, following a sudden illness.A son of the late John Barlow and Marian Barlow-Richards, John was born at Columbus, Ohio on May 14, 1921.He entered into the United States Military and spent the better part of more than twenty years serving in the Air Force as an instructor for Military Police prior to his retirement at the rank of Master Sgt.John enjoyed being a part of the Toast Masters organization and spending time in nature watching and caring for animals. He was also a collector of time pieces; that included clocks and watches and also maintained a coin collection. John is survived by a daughter, Connie Barlow; two sons, Rick (Shirlee) Barlow and David (Jennifer) Barlow all of Lebanon, Pennsylvania; and his former wife, Christine Williams.Five grandchildren, Russell, Laurel, Jason, Kyle, and Amanda; as well as three step-grandchildren, Danielle, Matt, and Debbie, complete the family.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Gary Barlow; and a brother and sister-in-law, Chet and Irma Randles.There will be no public visitation or services. Cremation care was conducted by Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. Burial at a later date will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at Annville, Pennsylvania.Because of John’s passion toward the support of disabled veterans, the family request that memorial contributions in his name be sent to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
