John E. Roth

John E. Roth, age 84, of New Philadelphia passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023, in Community Hospice Truman House, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 30, 1939, in Findlay, Ohio he was a son of the late Emmett F. Roth, Sr. and Christal M. (Killinger) Roth.

John worked in the Massillon Steel Mill for many years.  But his greatest joy was spending time with his family.  He loved to take the family on camping trips for vacations.  Spending time outside was where he found joy, either fishing or gardening.  He was also a collector of many things and an avid reader.  His hobbies included woodworking and masonry.

John was a longtime member of Broadway Global Methodist Church. 

On June 30, 1962 he married Rebecca "Becky” E. Lawrence.  Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage. 

John is survived by his wife, Rebecca; children, Douglas E. (Diane) Roth of Hebron, Kentucky, David E. (Cathy) Roth of Dover, and Dale E. (Bill Franke) Roth of Grove City, Ohio; grandchildren, Elizabeth R.  (Hunter) Farrow, Johnathan D. Roth, and Allison M. Roth; sisters, Mona J. Ronald, and June A. (Carl) Squires; brothers Emmett F. Roth, Jr., and Larry D. (Donna) Roth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Theda E. Lawrence; and brother-in-law, James Ronald.

The family will greet friends on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 10:00 to 12:00 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory in New Philadelphia.  A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in East Ave. Cemetery.
