John P. McMurray, 40, of Bolivar, died unexpectedly in his sleep Tuesday, December 9, 2003 in Hammond, Louisiana. John was born in Denver, Colorado on November 6, 1963 to Beverly A. Langberg McMurray and the late Lynn McMurray, who died in 1985. He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1982 and then served honorably with the U. S. Army in Germany for seven years.John was the owner and operator of DSN Trucking in Bolivar, which was named for the first initials of his three children. Through his trucking company, John represented HBL Express of Akron. In his leisure time, he liked working in his yard at home. Most of all, John enjoyed being with his family, especially spending time with his children and the family dog, “Leo.” He found a common interest in target shooting with his sons, David and Steven, and enjoyed attending their sporting events. Together, with family and friends, he enjoyed boating at Atwood Lake. John and his family attended Bolivar’s United Methodist Church.He leaves behind sons, David and Steven and daughter, Nicole, all of Bolivar; mother, Beverly A. McMurray of New Philadelphia; siblings, Jeff (Karen) Torluemke of Hoxie, KS; Janet (Andy) Sobczyk of Kent, WA; James (Kathy) McMurray of Franklin, TN; Diana Meese of Massillon; Michael (Diana) McMurray and Kathy (Allen) Bigler, both of Dover; Debra (Henry) Darrow of Fort Plain, NY; and Tim (Kim) McMurray of Wainwright; maternal grandmother, Gertrude Langberg of Tucson, AZ; uncle, Larry (Keni) Langberg of Simi Valley, CA; numerous nieces and nephews, and his fiancé, Linda Aleksa. In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Capt. Vernon Langberg in 2001 and paternal grandmother, Gail McMurray Light in 1980.Visitation will be Sunday, December 14, 2003 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. Rev. Joel Adkins will officiate. Burial alongside his father will take place on Monday at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Burial Park with Rev. Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating and members of the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 presenting military honors.Contributions honoring John may be made to The Heart Center at Akron General Hospital, 400 Wabash Ave., Akron, OH 44307 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
