John P. Baab, of North Canton passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009, when he suddenly fell into the arms of his loving wife. He was born in Baltic on June 3, 1936. He was baptized, confirmed and married in the Baltic Zion United Church of Christ. He was a resident of New Philadelphia from 1957 to 1994 and was a member of the First United Church of Christ where he served on consistory. He currently was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in North Canton.John was a graduate of Baltic High School and Gale Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a former employee of the Baltic Lumber Company and Marsh Lumber Company of Dover. He and his wife have owned and operated Baab Apartments in Dover and New Philadelphia since 1956. He served in BTRY “C” 462d FA Bn. of the United States Army Reserve from 1957 to 1963.John was an avid New Philadelphia High School Quaker fan as well as a Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed working in his landscaping and lawn and attending to his many flowers as well as feeding the birds. John loved animals and they loved him and he will be sadly missed by his precious dogs Lady and Snickers. He was a member of the Springwood Lake Camp Club where he enjoyed many summer days.He is survived by his wife, the former Mary I. Hinds, who was his high school sweetheart and whom he married July 7, 1957 and his loving daughter Ruda L. Baab, CPA, of North Canton.He was preceded in death by a son, John Philip; his parents, George B. and Leona L. Baab; his mother-in-law, Ethel Hinds Kron; and a brother Nicholas H. Baab.Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 12:30 pm with Pastor Gary Smith of the North Canton Zion United Church of Christ officiating. A committal service will be held at 2:30 pm in the Mausoleum of the North Lawn Cemetery at 4927 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6pm-8pm and Thursday one hour prior to the service.
