John Morris Hammel, 64, of Mineral City, O., died Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.A son of the late Clarence and Pauline Stratton Hammel, John was born April, 16, 1941, in Mineral City.He was a 1959 graduate of Bolivar High School, had been employed by Beller-Von Kaenel Trucking, had owned and operated Hammel’s Small Engine Repair, in Dover and rebuilt and sold brake shoes for semi trucks.John had attended St. John’s United Church of Christ, in Strasburg, O., had formerly belonged to the Soapy’s Raiders and GE mixed couples bowling leagues. He enjoyed hunting and was a prolific woodworker. He also belonged to A.A.R.P. and the National Rifle Association. John is survived by his wife, Judith Fowler Hammel, whom he married, January 6, 1962 at St. John’s church in Strasburg.; a son, Michael Hammel, of Mineral City, a daughter and her fiancé, Malinda Murphy and Earl Mann, of Bolivar; a brother, Clarence Gayle Hammel, of Beach City, granddaughters, Amanda and Alesha Murphy; nephews, Daniel and Gayle (Shannon) Hammel and great nieces, Aldawna, Kathryn, Michaela and Johnna Lee Hammel He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be Friday, February 17, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m till 11 a.m. Saturday in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Dana Kierstead on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel. Burial will be at German Cemetery in Mineral City.A reception will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ following the committal.Memorial contributions to honor John’s life are suggested to: Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W.
