John James Lumpcik, 81, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, Thursday, November 9, 2017 while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House following a brief illness.
Born at Piney Fork, Ohio on September 23, 1936, John was a son of the late John A. and Mary Celestino Lumpcik.
He graduated from Adena High School and on March 30, 1957 married the love of his life, the former Shirley Lee. Together the couple reared five children and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
John retired from Greer Steel at Dover following 37 years with the company where he was a Mill and Pickle Line operator. John also worked for many years for Kay-Zee International manufacturing knife handles and blades. Following retirement, he assisted his daughter and son-in-law at Celuch Creative, where he enjoyed building custom portrait frames. However, his most delightful job following retirement was following the sporting games and activities of his grandchildren.
He loved spending time fishing with his buddy, Jack Leiser, taking an annual vacation to Myrtle Beach, following NASCAR, attending tractor pulls, gardening, antiquing, and being with his family. He was a father and grandfather figure to many in the congregation of New Hope Church at Canal Fulton, where his faith was nurtured and he served as an Elder for many years.
In addition to his wife, John leaves behind his beloved family, his children, John (Jeanne) Lumpcik, Jr. of Beavercreek, Ohio, Ron (Cindy) Lumpcik of Canal Fulton, Sheryll (Jim) Celuch of New Philadelphia, Mindy (Bob) Christy of Green, and Dan (Tracy) Lumpcik of Dennison; a former daughter-in-law, Angela Hill of Dover; his sister, Cynthia Lumpcik of New Philadelphia; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and an expected great-grandchild due at any time.
The family will greet guests on Sunday, November 12, 2017, from 2-5 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating John’s life will be led by Dr. Ken Morrison on Monday at 11 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. All are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the Geib Family Center following the service.
The family requests memorial contributions in John’s name be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
