John L. Brandt

John L. Brandt, age 85, of Dover, died peacefully Tuesday, May 21, 2013, in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a brief illness.

Born at Bremen, Ohio on April 12, 1928 he was the youngest of seven children born to the late John M. and Josephine (Schumaker) Brandt.

A graduate of Junction City Jackson High School, John worked for the Select Sire Company for 35 years prior to his retirement.

On June 4, 1948 at Junction City, Ohio he married the love of his life, the former Dorothy Hubble. As a couple they reared two sons and have shared in nearly 65 years of marriage.

John was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in the Oldtown Valley and enjoyed watching basketball and traveling.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Ned (Susan) Brandt and Donald (Marti) Brandt; two sisters, Marcella Bushee and Margaret Cornell; four grandchildren, Carri (Ed) Davey, Josh (Jill) Brandt, Stephanie (Sam) Macio, and Christine (Pat) O’Toole and four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Madisyn, Jackson, and Sophia.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by a brother, Purcel Brandt and three sisters, Ruth Middaugh, Ada Wolfe, and Betty Scholl.

The family will receive guests on Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM in the Dover Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a celebration of John’s life on Saturday at 11:30 AM. Following the services all are invited to share a meal and fellowship with the family in the social hall of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Private Burial will take place in the Stone Creek Cemetery.
