John “Jack” Edward Dapoz Jr., 80, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at his home.
A son of the late John E. Dapoz Sr. and the late Mildred Rose (Hency) Dapoz, Jack was born July 25, 1935 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Jack graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1953. Then on July 7, 1956 in St. Elizabeth’s Church at Roswell, Jack married the love of his life, the former Martha Lee Monte.
He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia and was a longtime employee at Marlite, retiring as a General Foreman after 45 years of service. Jack was a sports enthusiast, an avid Notre Dame fan, and he enjoyed gardening and hunting.
Jack was known for his outgoing and friendly personality as well as his ability to never complain, even through his courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Jack was very family oriented and he cherished their visit to the Notre Dame campus on Father’s Day. He enjoyed hunting with his son, Mike, and grandson, Tyler, the family vacations, and the many other memories he shared with his family over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Dapoz; his children, John “Mike” (Lori) Dapoz of New Philadelphia and Jeff (Lisa) Dapoz and Brenda (Rob) Ellis both of Westerville; a granddaughter, Stacie (Chris VanTress) Dapoz of Columbus; three grandsons, Tyler (Jamie Roll) Dapoz and Mitch Valentine both of New Philadelphia and Nate (Rachel) Valentine of Canton; two great grandsons, Brice and Logan Valentine; a sister, Eileen Ren and a brother-in-law, Joe (MaryLee) Monte, both of New Philadelphia; and three nieces.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Don Ren.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary service being held at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jeff Coning celebrating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the St. Ambrose Hall at Sacred Heart Church, New Philadelphia.
