John H. Reynolds

John H. Reynolds, age 90, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover following a period of declining health. A son of the late Vincent and Margaret Martin Reynolds, John was born at Elizabeth, West Virginia on April 6, 1921.He proudly served his country during World War II where he was stationed for 26 months with the 29th General Hospital in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. During that time, John was responsible for general care of wounded soldiers who entered the hospital unit. On October 25, 1946, at Pomeroy, Ohio, John married the former Nina Ruth Barrett and as a couple had four children. For 18 years, John worked at the former Evans Sewer Pipe at Uhrichsville prior to taking an electrician’s position with Morris-Knutsen at Wyoming; and retired in 1982 following more than a decade with the firm.Together, John and Nina enjoyed traveling the United States and shared in many sight-seeing adventures throughout the country. During his free time, John found satisfaction in woodworking, helping others as a need arose and working around his “hobby farm” located outside of Dennison. When the work was complete, John often settled in front of the television to watch sporting events.In addition to his wife of nearly 65 years, John will be missed by his family which includes a daughter, Jane (Jim) Smith of Bowerston, Ohio; a son, Frank (Lauren) Reynolds of Holland, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Libby” Reynolds of New Philadelphia; and five brothers, Vincent Reynolds of Uhrichsville and Paul, James, Steve and Clifford Reynolds all of Parkersburg, West Virginia.Six grandchildren, Nic and Tim Reynolds, Juli Shaw, Missy Helter and Laramie and Wyatt Reynolds; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Reynolds; a son, John D. Reynolds; a grandson, Craig Page; four brothers and one sister.There will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will be cared for by Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. Inurnment will take place in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville.Those wishing to honor John’s memory may do so by directing memorial contributions in his name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society 6155 Rockside Rd., Suite 202 Independence, Ohio 44131 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
