John G. Ozinga, Jr., age 82, of New Philadelphia, went into paradise early Thursday morning, April 8, 2010 at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.Born in Paterson, New Jersey on March 4, 1928, he was the son of the late John G. and Susie (Wardenberg) Ozinga, Sr. After completing his formal education at American School at Chicago in 1949, he began his professional career. On December 20, 1945, John married his wife, Marian Jane (Clounie) Ozinga, who survives. Together, they enjoyed taking risks and living “outside of the box.” They owned and operated a carpet business in Eastlake, O. and then a laundromat on the beach in Kitty Hawk, N.C. They resided in Ohio and North Carolina throughout their lifetime together.He was also a man of The Word, having been ordained in the Nags Head Baptist Church in North Carolina. He ministered at Willo Bible Chapel in Willoughby, O. as a youth pastor and Sunday school teacher. He also was an interim pastor at a number of churches. He will also be deeply missed by his family including children, Sally Ozinga of Rutherfordton, N.C., John (Jill) Ozinga, III, of Chardon, O., and Don (Nancy) Ozinga of Banner Elk, N.C.; his sister, Trina DeYoung, of Arkansas; his brother, Tice Ozinga, Geneva, O.; true friends, Dan and Nancy Clemens; ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Dorothy Hazen, Natalie Voss, and Sue Auld; and one brother, James Ozinga.A memorial service celebrating John’s life will take place at Faith Christian Church in New Philadelphia on Sunday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Flood officiating.
