John Franklin Johnson, age 81, of Dover, died Sunday, April 10, 2016 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
Born in the family home at Uhrichsville, Ohio on September 11, 1934, John is a son of the late Buss and Clara M. (Myers) Johnson.
He attended the former Uhrichsville High School and served as a member of the United States Army from 1957-1959. John was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky where he was assigned to the Armor Division motor pool.
John worked for the former Norris Oil Company, now Campbell Oil, where he delivered fuel oil for many years and retired in 1994. John was an avid sports fan who enjoyed attending volleyball matches, baseball and football games of his great nieces and nephew.
John also enjoyed traveling with his wife, the former Jean Beamer, whom he married on December 27, 1958. Together the couple enjoyed NASCAR; John supported Kyle Busch, while Jean cheered on Dale Earnhardt, Jr. They enjoyed traveling all over the country attending races and vacationing in the Smoky Mountains and Myrtle Beach. John was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus both at Dennison and the Tuscarawas VFW.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, John leaves behind his special family; a niece, Cathy (Luke) Lawless, their children, Molly (Colt) Liggett, Alex Lawless and Megan Lawless, all who were very very special and meant the world to him. Completing the family are numerous other nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Robert Beamer of Tuscarawas, and three sisters-in-law, Rosalie (Larry) Bolden of New Philadelphia, Carol (Larry) Valentine of Cuyahoga Falls and Chris Beamer of Wainwright.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Johnson and Mike Crabtree; and a sister, June Albright.
The family will greet guests on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 6-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:45 PM. Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10:30 AM in Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
