John Ervin

John Wesley “Porky” Ervin, 60, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, December 9, 2018 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a recent illness.

A son of the late Walter and Lois (Bender) Ervin, John was born July 20, 1958 at Dover, Ohio.

John graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1976. He was a machinist by trade and most recently was employed at Gemstone Gas & Welding Supplies at New Philadelphia.

He was an enthusiast of Schwinn Bicycles having a collection of more than 300. John was a fanatic of The Ohio State Buckeyes and was also a fan of Cleveland sports teams.

He is survived by his brothers, Gary (Jerry) Ervin, Mark (Susan) Ervin, Todd Ervin and Scott (Monica) Ervin all of New Philadelphia; his nieces and nephews, Lori, Jennifer, Christian (Shannon), Joshua (Casey) and LeNay (Jesse); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kierra, Moriah, Skylar, Austin, Ashlynn, Xavier, Micah, Gracyen and Gabe; his special Angel, Christine Burrell and a close family friend, Richie Mushrush.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating John’s life will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home. In keeping with John’s wishes, attendees are welcome to come as you are and can even wear Ohio State clothing. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
