John E. Hunter I, 79, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Union Hospital, Dover.A son of the late William and Hazel Feister Hunter, John was born March 30, l924, in Barnhill, OH, and served with the United States Army in France during World War II.He was employed by Evans brick yard in Midvale for 33years, and later retired from Perma-Mesh. A member of the Uhrichsville Moose and the Dover VFW, John enjoyed being with his family, fishing and camping.He is survived by his wife, the former Lois Stone, whom he married in l977; daughters, Mary (Darrell) Butler of Dennison and Melissa (Jerry) Horn, Jr., of New Philadelphia; son, John (Patty) Hunter of Uhrichsville; daughter-in-law, Dawn Hunter of Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma Canton, Shirley Byers, Carolyn Modany, and Alice Henson, and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Margaret Renicker; a son, Jeff; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; and five sisters.Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 15, from 7 to 9 PM. Services will be Wednesday, July 16, at 11 AM, in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dave Bryan officiating, and will conclude with military services conducted by the Dover VFW Post 3463. A luncheon in the Geib Family Center will follow. Private committal services at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville will follow cremation which is under the care and direction of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.The family requests that memorial contributions in John’s honor be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. Third Street, Dover OH, 44622.
