John Edmund Lake, Jr., 67, of Mineral City, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 in Aultman Hospital at Canton.Born in Mineral City, Ohio, on July 10, 1943, he was the son of the late John Edmund Lake Sr. and Mildred (Briggs) Lake.John was a member of the 1962 first graduating class of Tuscarawas Valley High School. Following High School John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the Hercules Engine company of Canton, OH.John was a member of the American Legion Post 519 at Mineral City, a past president and charter member of the Sandyville Eagles, was a former Mineral City volunteer firefighter and had formerly served as the mayor of Mineral City.A patriotic citizen, John was well known for preparing care packages for men and women serving in the armed forces over sea. It is estimated that he has sent around 10, 000 care packages.He is survived by a son, John E. (Mandy) Lake, III, of Uhrichsville, OH; daughters, Janine (Robert) Brostrom, of Sebeka, MN, and Shirlee Lake, of Tillamook, OR; sisters, Myrna Holderbaum, of Barnhill and Darleen (Sonny) Imer, of Gnadenhutten; grandchildren, Colton, Peyton, Chastin and Coltin Lake, Cody Bostrom, and Heather Bostrom ; a special friend, Willie Robertson and good friends, Mike and Kim Lucas and Dan McCoury.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Ashli Lake and a grandchild, Dustin Cook Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2010, in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Nathan Douglas will conduct a service celebrating John’s life on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home’s chapel.Burial will follow in German Cemetery at Mineral City where the New Philadelphia VFW post 1445 will conduct military honors.Friends and family are invited to visit an online memorial for John by visiting the funeral home’s website, www.geibcares.comMemorial contributions in memory of John may be made to the American Legion Post 519, PO Box 416 Mineral City, OH 44656Linn-Hert-Geib(330)343-5506
