John E. “Jack” Baldwin, 88, of Country Club Retirement Campus, died Friday, September 28, 2007 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born December 10, 1918 in Midvale, he was a son of the late Emerson and Ella (Beitzel) Baldwin.After graduating from Midvale High School in 1936, he joined the U.S. Army where he honorably served his country from 1942 to 1945. Then, he began his professional career as a conductor on the railroad. He was a member of the Midvale V.F.W. throughout his lifetime. He also enjoyed his affiliation with the Dennison Depot as a guide and the United Transportation Union. In 1997, Jack was inducted into the Cy Young Hall of Fame Old Timers Baseball Association. He was also an avid fan of local sporting teams, following them from regular season games through tournament play.Jack married the former Rita Lenora Alexander on February 2, 1941. Together, they celebrated 50 years of marriage before her death on December 3, 1991.He is survived by his nephew, Richard (Judy) Tolloti of New Philadelphia; his niece, Gay (Jack) Ries of New Philadelphia; numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his brother-in-law, J. Robert Alexander of Wainwright.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert and Melvin Baldwin and Bernice Tolloti.A service celebrating Jack’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home chapel at New Philadelphia on Monday, October 1, 2007. Father Martin Ralko will officiate the service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.The family request memorial contributions be directed to the Immaculate Conception Church, 206 N.
