John Dean Kimmel, 84, of Westerville, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, June 9, 2007 in the Friendship Village of Columbus retirement home.A son of the late John Frank and Lucretia Stein Kimmel, Dean was born on May 25, 1923 at New Cumberland, Ohio. He graduated from New Cumberland High School, and was a WWII Marine Corp Veteran, having served in the Pacific theatre. Following WWII Dean served as a Tuscarawas County Deputy Sheriff and retired in 1985 following over 30 years of service as a Sales Manager for Marsh Lumber.Dean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Philadelphia, enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Maxine E. Herron Kimmel; sons, James (Barbara) Kimmel, of Westerville, OH and Dennis (Shirlie) Kimmel, of Yorktown, Virginia; grandchildren, Amy Kimmel Cole and Andrew Kimmel, both of Westerville, OH and great grandchildren, Ryland and Zoey Kimmel and Talia and Trinity Cole.Visitation will be Thursday, June 14, 2007 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor Richard H. Greenwood will conduct services at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1445 will provide military honors.Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Dean may do so to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Ave. Bob Hope Rd.
