John D. Miller, age 80 of Strasburg, died peacefully, Saturday, August 15, 2015 in New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Clyde Miller and Gladys (Francis) Kimble, John was born in Fairfield Township on November 26, 1934.
For a number of years, John worked at the A&P Grocery as a Clerk and retired from Miracle Adhesive. He was a member of Dover First Moravian Church and enjoyed using C.B. Radio, where he went by the handle of “Captain Midnight”. John was also known for his competitive card playing.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Dawn R. Murphy whom he married on August 28, 1962; his son, John (Kim) Miller of North Canton, Cinda (John) Pixler of New Philadelphia, his grandchildren, Shannon Wolfe of Canton, Shawn Miller, Scott (Stacy) Miller both of Brewster, and Todd (Neasa)Parsons of Oak Grove, Kentucky and great-grandchildren, Lilly Wolfe, Matt Miller, Hayden Miller and Sydney Miller.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Grace Wolfe.
The family will greet guests on Wednesday, August 19, 2105 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Rev. John Wallace will lead a service celebrating John’s life beginning at 11:00 AM. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the Funeral Center’s Hospitality Room. Private inurnment will take place in the Ridgecrest Memorial Gardens at a later date.
