John A. Colombo, Sr. 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in his home.
Born in Roswell, John was the son of the late John and Lydia (Gladstone) Colombo and a 1957 graduate of the former Midvale High School. He had retired from the former Howden Buffalo at New Philadelphia where he had worked as a welder.
To say that John was an avid local sports fan would be an understatement. Starting with his sons sporting activities and onto his grandchildren, if they played, wherever they played, he went. Any sport, anywhere, anytime. John’s support wasn’t just limited to his family. He could be found at almost any sporting event, watching the local area teams but was a fixture at Tuscarawas Central Catholic. He could be found not only watching boy’s and girls’ varsity games but junior varsity, freshmen, 8th grade and 7th grade games. He forged many friendships over the years with not only the players, but with the coaches too. He will be truly missed.
Surviving are his three sons, John (Marina) Colombo of Uhrichsville, Craig (Wendy) Colombo of Strasburg and Chris “Crunch” Colombo of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Marco Colombo, Mackenzie Colombo and Tyler Colombo and his brother, Web DiGenova of Hilton Head, South Carolina.
In addition to his parents, an infant son, Eric Colombo and two brothers, Anthony DiGenova and Tom Colombo also preceded him in death.
In keeping with John’s wishes, He is to be cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a private family graveside service will be held in St. Elizabeth Church Cemetery at Roswell.
It was also John’s wish that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School, 777 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
