John C. Snyder

John C. Snyder, 86, of Strasburg, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 4, 2016 in Community Hospice House.

Born March 31, 1930 in Goshen Township, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Elizabeth D. (Carlisle) Snyder. After completing his formal education, John served his country in the United States Air Force.

As a young man, he met and fell in love with his wife, the former Marilyn M. Ridenour at a Grange Hall dance, and on August 21, 2015, they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

John was the owner and operator of Snyder Appliance in Strasburg prior to his retirement. He was very well versed in repairs and maintenance and shared that gift with his church, Fellowship Baptist Church, where he was a member. He enjoyed his past service as a volunteer with the Strasburg Fire Department and was a former member of City Council. Additionally, he was a 47 year member of the Strasburg American Legion Post #552.

John will be deeply missed by his wife, Marilyn; his four daughters, Karen (Sandy) Boylan of Mt. Vernon, Lynn (Steve) Valentine of Parral, Lorna (Rick) Levengood of New Philadelphia, and Patsy (Wayne) Wilkinson of Strasburg; his grandchildren, Shayla (Brett) Wray, Heath Boylan, Kendra Valentine, Rachelle (Bart) Hostetler, Jana Valentine, Wilma and Nathan Levengood, and Mitch and Summer Wilkinson; his great-grandchildren, Beckett and Aviana Wray and Mila and Madden Hostetler; and his sisters, Betty Ballentine, Maxine Scott, and Alice (Harley) Vogel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia on Friday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating his life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 10 am with Pastor Tom Shank officiating. Burial will follow in Stone Creek Cemetery.
